These are great Binos. While they take up more space and are heavier than say Swarovski 15x56, they also perform better at half the price. Having looked through both I know. This tells me the glass in these us good glass.
Using this collimator I aligned the secondary mirror with the focuser and then collimated both secondary and primary mirrors in a couple of minutes. It has made a major difference.
Arrived in excellent shape.
excellent product, good material and easy to handle I recommend it.
These binoculars are fantastic. They are well built but still quite manageable for an equipment of its class. Watching the young moon low on the horizon, there was only a tiny sliver of green which wasn't distracting at all. Vega, Spica were spectacular to look at, with only the slightest false colour if you knew where to look. Even from light polluted skies, the views of the popular Deepsky Objects are incredible. The 18mm eyepieces are good, with a near flat field and generous eye relief. Also tried a 13mm T6 Nagler and the view is outstanding with a true floating experience.
Nick is great to talk to and promptly responded to all my queries over email as well as phone calls. I will highly recommend Skygazeoptics.
Seems good. I have not yet processed files but I'll be surprised if it is not what it was advertised to be.
These are great binos. Obviously they aren't APO's so there is some green color fringing when looking at bright objects. But, it certainly isn't bothersome, especially since these big boys are for looking at deep sky stuff. I'm really enjoying them and they work great with my parallelogram mount. I think these binos will last a lifetime and then be handed off to one of my kids. Thanks for a great product.
My first binoculars and I love them, great product and easy to use.
Worked as described
I received the part in perfect condition. Thanks!!
These binoculars have motivated me to collect a larger set of eyepieces (from 5mm to 40mm). They really are apochromatic, showing no false color on Venus or the moon last night (April 2nd, 2020). Great detail and contrast (my previous favorite was a 25X70mm Russian pair).
I believe they are well worth the added cost over the APM semi apo binoculars, and Marcus is great to deal with, if you have any questions.
I am using an astronomical setup for terrestrial use (birds and very distant bears and wolves) consisting of a Denkmeier Binotron 27 and Stellarvue SVR102T, and various pairs of eyepieces. Of my various eyepiece pairs, I had found the APM Ultra Flat Field 18 mm to be noticeably sharper right to the edge of the field, and, something I have found important for daytime observation, very color neutral (those of another manufacturer have an amber tint). So I purchased a pair of APM 15 mm and those are just as great as their 18mm siblings. For daytime viewing, the crisp field stops frame the image well with black surrounds. The 65 degree AFOV is (for me) a bit of a sweet spot for bino viewing (the 50 degrees of a Plossl are too narrow, giving a tunnel-vision effect, while 82 degrees might introduce a faint halo of chromatic aberration towards the periphery, which is probably not noticed in celestial observation). I'm super happy with APM: the optics, construction, and finish are all superb.
One of the two filter foils is wrinkled quite a bit. I will take it apart and try to fix it.
Quality control needs attention
These binos are a good value (both price-wise and in build quality), but pay attention to the eyepieces listed in the description as the setup chosen by APM will not allow some popular eyepieces to focus in these binos!
The support provided by SkyGaze has been very helpful in trying to sort out the optic choices which will work with these binos. Thank you Nick!
Excellent optics, pinpoint stars to the edge.
Nick was the best. Changed my delivery address mid stream. Great service. The scope is a light hog. Love it. Will order all my stuff from him.
Have only had the chance to test it once and it did well so far. I did notice it cut my exposure times in half allowing more light through than the Broadband filter I had been using so this might work out well. Will need more practice to post a detailed review. Shipping was fast and purchase price was best I could find. Communication with Skygaze was great.
Excellent service and great eyepiece. Very happy.
It's the best refractor I've ever owned. It's absolutely stunning... it's outperforming the seeing all the time. I am only limited by the sky conditions because the telescope is so good. And the only time I can beat the sky conditions is when I am using narrow-band filters, it cuts out, of course, all the extraneous light other than the frequency you are using and it shows off just how damn good that telescope is!
The eyepiece gives a nice wide view of the area that you are observing.
Once the set-up was complete the telescope worked very nicely seeing Jupiter and 4 moons quite clearly. I may have to move on to a refractor as observing the night sky is quite addicting.
Excellent optics at a reasonable price. I also own a pair of Fujinon FMT-SX 7x50’s and the APM binoculars are quite comparable in overall quality.
I usually shoot nb in my dome, but recently started to explore OSC. I have a lot of LP (bortle 6) here at home and needed a LP filter. I had a LP-pro which seemed okay, not overly impressive. And I saw a demo of this filter and ordered on the spot. I'd love to do a side by side comparison as the season continues but 30 our of 32 nights have been cloudy. I did get one chance to try the filter and I'm quite pleased with the results.
These binoculars are amazing. The first thing I noticed when I held them is how rugged they are; they are clearly built to last. Collimation was spot on when they arrived, which should be expected for binoculars of this caliber. You can spend over twice as much for the Nikon Astroluxes, or the Fujinon 16x70s, but the APM is going to rival both of them. I highly recommend heading over to the forums on cloudynights and reading about these binoculars. There is a wealth of information from other APM owners. I was planning on purchasing a pair of Oberwerks until I discovered all of the rave reviews of the APM ED series. The 16x70 can be handheld for short periods of time, but you will be amazed by what you can see when they're mounted. I mount mine on the Manfrotto 502AH head. To summarize, you are definitely getting what you pay for with the APMs. You will not be disappointed.
Very professional and friendly transaction. I feel that Nick and Skygaze have your back thru the process. My decision to continue working with this company on future purchases is based on my positive initial buying experience.
